We observed that there were enough staff on duty to support people with their care, support and social care needs. The registered provider arranged training, induction, appraisal and supervision for staff. This helped them to gain the knowledge and skills to care and support people. The service responded to the needs of people in a way, which was exemplary. Staff showed they understood people’s care and support needs and responded to them by delivering person centred care. People had creatively organised activities that met their preferences or needs and helped them to develop new interests.
Staff had access to guidance to help them to identify, act on and protect people from the risk of abuse. Staff knew what action to take to raise an allegation of abuse for investigation to the service and the local authority. “Had recently used Castlegar nursing home for my mother, she was very happy there . I would highly recommend it and we found the staff very courteous and caring in the excellent way they looked after our mum." Thank you so much for the kindness and care shown at Aliwal Manor. We were unsure how Dad would settle at first, but the staff and other residents helped him feel at home which was a huge relief, knowing Dad received the right care when he needed it the most.

CQC found this care home to be providing an Good service. Description Mediwest care are recruiting Health Care Assistants for a patient friendly nursinghome, in Castlebar Co Mayo. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience... What a treasure trove Castlemead Court is, for both residents and relatives. Clearly at the heart is absolute care shown to the residents as individuals, whereby their different needs are always taken on board.
Any further relevant National guidance from the Government and Public Health England when issued will override the guidance set out here. People who used the service praised the exceptional quality of care they received. Health and social care professionals worked in partnership with staff so people had effective and coordinated care.

The home is well run and all staff are friendly and professional. I couldn’t be happier knowing that my mum is being so cared for in this lovely home. My nan is so well cared for by staff who are incredibly patient and supportive. They’re always smiling and work so hard to ensure residents are happy and safe. My brother has lived at Brook House for over four years and has always enjoyed kindness and consideration, as well as receiving a high standard of care. His health condition means he needs a high level of support, and the staff at Brook House have been always been extremely caring and efficient.
That said, the Government still expect care providers to facilitate visits in a risk-managed way to ensure that the people living and working in our care homes remain as safe as possible. This means our care homes continue to need to demonstrate safe and effective management of visiting at all times. At Excelcare, we continue to do all we can to keep residents, visitors, and team members as safe as possible.
My whole family thank Aliwal Manor for the reassurance that a very old lady we love is being cared for so well in her declining years, something we acknowledge that we cannot do ourselves. Thank you so much for the love and support you gave to my father and our family. We can’t thank you enough for all you have done to make Dad so comfortable. I cannot sing the praises of Castlemead Court enough; an establishment that has to be seen to witness just how a care home should be run. I applaud the high standards of care given to those that need it most by people that really care.
Visitors should not enter the care home if they are feeling unwell, even if they have tested negative for COVID-19 and are fully vaccinated and have received their booster. Transmissible viruses such as flu, respiratory syncytial virus and norovirus can be just as dangerous to care home residents as COVID-19. Please note that we regularly review our visiting policy and therefore welcome any feedback from your visits, preferably by email. Your feedback will help us to make any improvements needed.

People provided consent when they received care from staff. The principles of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards were known and understood by staff. At the last inspection on 22 October 2014 the service was meeting all the regulations of the Health and Social Care Act Regulations 2010, inspected at that time. On the 20 and 31 October 2016, we carried out a comprehensive inspection and we looked at all of the Key Lines of Enquiry under each key question. Keeping our families/loved ones safe and cared for.
